Meet the MAA Board
Meet the MAA Board
While you might be familiar with many of the faces of MAA—the staff and agents who make our work possible—you might be unaware that there is a Board of Directors that serves behind the scenes of our organization.
Allow us to introduce you to the women and men who help guide the future of MAA:
Wilfred (Wil) E. Nolen, Chair
In his 32nd year as a member of our Board of Directors, Wil is a former president of the Church of the Brethren Benefit Trust and Brethren Foundation.
Wil joined the board to lend his expertise of blending business with ministry, and continues to offer his experience in that regard as Chair. He is continually drawn to our Brethren values of sisterhood and brotherhood: “MAA takes on the mutual responsibility for the wellbeing of our members, similar to the model of the early church in the Acts of the Apostles.”
Q: What are you most looking forward to seeing in MAA’s future?
My vision for MAA is that it will become more ecumenical in its marketing, including all Church of the Brethren, Brethren Church and other Anabaptists/Pietists communions as well as other denominations, especially those located in current COB client communities.
Lowell Flory, Vice Chair
A retired attorney, college professor, and higher education administrator, Lowell has been lending his skills and expertise to MAA’s Board since 2016.
Because he believes so firmly in our mission of mutual support, Lowell has been a policyholder with MAA for 40 years. He was inspired to join the board to help further that mission. He values the work we do in going the extra mile to support our clients, including through the Share Fund and the Partnership Program.
Q: What are you most looking forward to seeing in MAA’s future?
Offering services usually reserved for the corporate world through a small, church-related agency is a challenge, but that's exactly where I hope we continue to be a niche for a special group of people: Providing specially personalized insurance services to those sharing Brethren heritage and commitments. My hope is that we can be an instrument that brings a sense of common purpose and caring for each other across all Brethren groups.
LeAnn Harnist, Treasurer
LeAnn is an accounting manager at The Paperwork Assistants and has served on MAA’s Board for nine years, contributing her mind for numbers and financial expertise to our mission.
MAA’s values of mutual aid in caring for others in times of need resonates with LeAnn. As part of the board, she has appreciated the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of MAA’s values: To make insurance about more than a financial transaction, but about mutuality.
Q: What are you most looking forward to seeing in MAA’s future?
I hope that MAA will continue to expand the message that choosing a specific insurance agency can be a way to help one another. We all need insurance. Choosing an agency that offers a helping hand in addition to good coverage is something unique and worth promoting.
Anne Reid, Director
Anne has been part of our Board of Directors since 2017. She is retired from Murray Cider Company, Inc, where she served as secretary/treasurer for over forty years. Her decades of business experience are a valuable asset to our organization.
Being a member of the Church of the Brethren her entire life, Anne is familiar with Brethren thoughts, ideas, and values. She appreciates how MAA reflects those principles in serving and supporting so many Brethren institutions, and how a portion of every premium dollar goes back to the Share Fund.
Q: What are you most looking forward to seeing in MAA’s future?
I hope MAA can continue to give the support and service to its constituents that it has given in the past. I hope more people can become aware of what good service we can give, and become part of an organization which gives back to the denomination.
We are endlessly grateful for the time, wisdom, skill, and service that these Board members lend to MAA during their regular meetings. Our organization would not be what it is today without each of their valuable contributions.
