Autumn brings a welcome reprieve from summer's scorching heat. The days grow shorter, the nights turn cooler, and the zucchini is swapped out for butternut squash at the local veggie stand. Farmers spend long days in the field, harvesting the well-earned fruits of their labor before the season of rest is upon them.

For all of us, each new season brings a fresh opportunity to pause and take stock of our lives. For farmers specifically, fall is a hands-on chance to evaluate land, equipment, and assets—an excellent time to consider insurance needs.

Am I required to have farm insurance?
If you are new to farming, or simply haven't thought about purchasing farm insurance before, we strongly advise having at least liability and property coverage to protect you and your family from possible financial loss. Even if you rent your land from others, depending on the size of the property and what you are doing with the land, it's very possible that you need insurance.

My farm is small, or I only farm part-time. Do I still need insurance?
In short, yes! MAA recommends liability and property coverage for all farms no matter the size.

In addition to liability and property insurance, what kind of coverage does MAA offer?
MAA writes with different carriers, so we can insure many different types of farm products; it's best to contact us to discover what kind of coverage will suit your specific needs. For example, MAA doesn't offer crop insurance—a specialized insurance type—but we can insure grain after it's been harvested.
